Discover Our StoryBuilt upon faith, discipline, sacrifice, and responsibility — values modeled by those who came before us.
We, the descendants of R.T. and Mattie Joe Slaughter, establish this Charter to preserve our shared legacy, strengthen our unity, and steward opportunity for future generations. Legacy requires structure, unity requires accountability, and opportunity requires stewardship.
Grounded in enduring Christian values of unity, humility, reverence, and service — the spiritual and moral center modeled by Mattie Joe Slaughter as the heart of the household.
R.T. Slaughter's example of skilled labor, persistence, and craftsmanship — proving that opportunity is not granted, but built through disciplined work and self-reliance.
Each generation stands as both beneficiary and steward — responsible for protecting, advancing, and carrying forward the standard set by those who came before.
A covenantal framework — rooted in faith, strengthened by discipline, sustained by resilience — providing both a foundation and a mandate for generations yet to come.
R.T. Slaughter served his country in the military before becoming a farmer and sharecropper. In 1946, he married Mattie Joe Wiley, and together they committed to building a better future for their family. Seeking greater opportunity, they relocated to Kansas City, Missouri, where R.T. learned the heating and cooling trade and worked for Jefferson Bus Line.
Mattie Joe Slaughter served as the spiritual and moral center of the household. Though she aspired to pursue a career in nursing, she made the deliberate decision to invest fully in raising and nurturing her children. In later years, she fulfilled her calling in healthcare, serving for 20 years at the local hospital — demonstrating that purpose, once planted, is not abandoned but fulfilled in due time.
Together, they established both a household and a standard. To their seven sons and two daughters, they imparted not only values but a way of life. Each son entered a skilled trade, building upon the foundation laid by their father's example, while operating within the moral and spiritual framework set by their mother. This integration of practical skill and spiritual grounding became the family's operating model.
The mission of the Slaughter Family Foundation is to support the long-term well-being and prosperity of the descendants of R.T. and Mattie Joe Slaughter by advancing education opportunities, responsible stewardship, and the preservation of generational continuity.
Not a contract of entitlement, but a commitment of stewardship.
We are not merely participants in a family; we are stewards of a legacy, bound by covenant, and committed to the continual advancement of the Slaughter Family. From the Preamble
Their lives serve not only as a historical reference but as a living standard for the conduct, stewardship, and purpose of this family across generations.
